Stekbedrijf Bergs takes home double win!
The organisation sent the following official press release to the media on Thursday 24 January 2013:
Twins Loes and Wim Bergs are the proud winners of the 2013 Leudal Entrepreneur Award. Stekbedrijf Bergs not only took home the Entrepreneur Award, but also won the Rabobank Public Prize.
The very first Leudal Entrepreneur Award was presented on Wednesday 23 January in a packed Bombardon Theatre, where Heythuysen’s very own Stekbedrijf Bergs took home both the Leudal Entrepreneur Award and the Rabobank Public Prize. The enterprising twins convinced the jury, who visited and assessed the company, and the audience, who determined the evening’s public prize winner, that they deserved the win.
Following the untimely death of their parents, Loes and Wim Bergs transformed their family business into the modern and dynamic propagation company it is today.
Stekbedrijf Bergs propagates between 12 and 16 million cuttings each year. In addition to ornamental shrubs and perennial plants, the Heythuysen company specialises in over 90 varieties of lavender. The slipped plants are sold throughout Europe.
The jury, chaired by Bertha Verhoeven-Van Lierop, evaluated the companies on their turnover and growth, their influence on the regional job market, their social involvement, their future prospects and their entrepreneurial passion. Stekbedrijf Bergs topped the list as the most distinctive and innovative company.
The remaining nominees for the 2013 Leudal Entrepreneur Award were Custers Bronsgieterij from Grathem, Lindeboom Bierbrouwerij from Neer, Pedak Meettechniek from Heythuysen and Zorghoeve De Port from Kelpen-Oler.
